will

This tense is used

to make predictions about the future:
   Favela Pinto will be like Rocinha in a few years' time.
  
to make statements of fact about the future:
  I will be forty next birthday.

to make a decision at the moment of speaking:
   Ok, I'll tell him tonight.

to make a promise:
   I will love you forever.

to make an offer:
   I'll get you another beer.

with clauses of condition and time:
   If/when I'm rich, I'll buy you a house in the country.



Going to

This tense is used

to talk about planned decisions and intentions:
   I'm going to ask for a rise next month.

to talk about future arrangements:
   He's going to stay with us for a week.

to make predictions about the immediate future when there is some evidence to show what is going to happen:
   Look at those black clouds. It's going to rain in a minute.
